Governor McAuliffe and Secretary Holton Respond to Keith Miller’s Departure from Virginia State University
Governor Terry McAuliffe and Secretary of Education Anne Holton released the following statements today in response to Dr. Keith Miller’s decision to step down as President of Virginia State University:
Governor McAuliffe said, “I would like to thank Keith Miller for his service to the Commonwealth and to Virginia State University. Dr. Miller is a fine public servant and I know he has many contributions yet to make. Doctor Miller and the Board of Visitors both recognized that a change needed to be made in order to best serve the students and the institution. Going forward, I have the utmost confidence that the VSU Board of Visitors will be able to find a suitable replacement who will honor the values of this historic university."
Secretary Holton said, “Dr. Miller's decision to step down was made with the best interests of Virginia State University in mind. The Board of Visitors shares Dr. Miller's commitment to a steady transition and is dedicated to ensuring student well-being. We are confident that Virginia State shall remain the strong institution it has always been, with a thriving student body, dedicated faculty, and a proud history of educational excellence. VSU has been providing Virginia students an excellent education for 132 years, and will continue its high quality of service to future generations of students for many more.”
