State Superintendent for Public Instruction Application

The Office of the Secretary of Education is facilitating a process to make recommendations to the Governor about the selection of a State Superintendent for Public Instruction. Interested candidates should submit their application materials below by March 30, 2018.

Highly qualified candidates will be interviewed by a search committee on a rolling basis, and the search committee will then make final recommendations to the Governor. Please note that the committee will be internal to the Governor’s staff, and all applications and materials will be kept confidential and privileged.

The Governor is seeking qualified candidates who:

  • have a demonstrated track record leading education organizations;
  • have a clear ability to and are committed to working collaboratively with the Board of Education, local divisions, legislative and executive branch policymakers, and external stakeholders to advance the mission of VDOE;
  • recognize the value and importance of providing high-quality education to every child in every division in the Commonwealth; and
